Advanced forming solutions for the production of iron castings

No-Bake automatic molding represents one of the most advanced technologies for producing medium and large-sized iron castings, intended for industrial sectors requiring high precision, production flexibility, and consistent quality. This system allows for molds with cold-hardening chemical binders, eliminating the use of traditional green lines and allowing for more efficient management of complex geometries.

At Fonderia Quaglia & Colombo, automatic No-Bake molding is an integral part of a structured production process, designed to ensure operational continuity, dimensional reliability, and adaptability to diverse project requirements. The integration of automation, process parameter control, and mechanized handling allows for maintaining high standards even on complex production runs or for differentiated batches.

A HIGHLY AUTOMATED SYSTEM FOR MAXIMUM FLEXIBILITY

The automatic molding line at the Fonderia Quaglia & Colombo in Legnano (Milan) guarantees extremely high flexibility: it is in fact possible to put into production up to four models simultaneously, with molds whose dimensions can vary from 670 x 800 x 210 210 mm to 1770 x 1600 x 650 650 mm.

The fully automated movements have millimetric precision that minimizes the possibility of error, furthermore they allow us to mass produce castings normally produced by hand whose weight can reach 1400 kg.

These characteristics make automatic No Bake forming particularly suitable for the production of structural components, bases, frames, casings and products intended for the mechanical, energy and plant engineering industries, where geometric stability and process repeatability are essential elements.

The forming process

Automated No-Bake

The No-Bake molding system uses silica or synthetic sand mixed with chemical resins that harden at room temperature. In automatic molding, every stage of the process is controlled and synchronized: from mix preparation to compaction, up to mold extraction and handling.

Automation allows for consistent dosing and hardening parameters, improving the surface quality of castings and reducing dimensional tolerances. Computerized management of the production cycle also allows for rapid line reconfiguration, facilitating the transition between different models without penalizing production times.

Technical advantages of automatic No-Bake moulding

The adoption of automatic no-bake molding offers numerous operational and production benefits, especially in complex industrial environments. Among the main advantages are:

  • high design freedom in the creation of complex geometries
  • possibility of producing large and heavy castings
  • constant dimensional precision thanks to automated movements
  • reduction of manual interventions and greater operational safety
  • efficient integration with subsequent casting and finishing phases

These aspects contribute to making automatic No-Bake forming a strategic solution for made-to-order production and for medium-small series with high quality requirements.

Industrial applications and production continuity

The plant's flexibility allows Fonderia Quaglia & Colombo to handle multiple orders simultaneously, effectively responding to diverse requests. The ability to process multiple models simultaneously reduces setup times and optimizes production planning.

Automatic No-Bake molding is thus part of a reliable production flow, capable of supporting complex processes without compromising the final quality of the casting, while ensuring process control, traceability and repeatability.
